A recent social media trend saw users creating AI-generated action figures of themselves using ChatGPT, resulting in personalized “starter pack” images featuring miniature dolls complete with accessories like iced coffees and laptops.
However, this surge in AI-generated content prompted a response from the artistic community. Illustrator and ceramicist Holly Rolfe, among others, expressed concern over the trend, noting that even small creative businesses and graphic designers participated without commissioning human artists. Rolfe remarked, "I think it reinforces how tone-deaf big business can be and accentuates the gulf between brand and consumer."
In response, artists began sharing their own hand-drawn versions of these action figures, emphasizing the value of human creativity and craftsmanship.
