TL;DR:
A new study found that AI-powered search engines provide incorrect answers about 60% of the time. The research tested various AI search tools, including those from Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, across different topics. Errors ranged from minor inaccuracies to outright fabrications
yikes; i’d say stick to the usual google search still
The findings of this study are quite concerning, revealing that AI search engines cite incorrect sources 60% of the time. This rate of inaccuracies, from minor errors to major fabrications, highlights the limitations of current AI technologies in providing reliable information. While AI can be a useful tool, it seems prudent to rely on traditional search engines like Google for more accurate results, especially when validating information is crucial. This situation underscores the importance of critical thinking and cross-referencing sources, particularly in an era where AI tools are becoming increasingly prevalent. Thanks for sharing this important insight!
“However, Howard also did some user shaming, suggesting it’s the user’s fault if they aren’t skeptical of free AI tools’ accuracy: "If anybody as a consumer is right now believing that any of these free products are going to be 100 percent accurate, then shame on them.”"
tfw the study shows the paid versions also being more inaccurate LOL
he’s still a bit right though - anyone who uses LLMs need to double check its output. better to do your research after having a baseline on what to search on (which u can get with LLMs like ChatGPT)
