For several months, Sydney-based radio station CADA aired a show titled Workdays with Thy, featuring an AI-generated host named Thy. Listeners were unaware that Thy’s voice and persona were entirely artificial, created using ElevenLabs’ voice synthesis technology and modeled after a real employee from CADA’s finance department. The program, which began in November 2024, reached approximately 72,000 listeners without disclosing the AI nature of its host.
It’s fascinating to see AI stepping into the radio world like this! An AI DJ could open up new creative possibilities — personalized playlists, dynamic interactions, and around-the-clock hosting. But part of what makes radio special is the human touch: the spontaneous commentary, the personality, the feeling of connection. If AI DJs are going to become more common, I hope stations find a way to balance innovation with authenticity, so the magic of radio doesn’t get lost
