Gen Z and AI: A New Kind of Love Story?

A new global survey reveals something pretty wild—over a quarter of Gen Z believes they could fall in love with and even marry AI in the future. With AI companions becoming more emotionally intelligent and customizable, many young people are questioning whether real human relationships are still the only path to connection.

The report highlights a growing trend: digital intimacy. As AI tools become more human-like, Gen Z is more open to forming deep bonds with them, even at the cost of traditional social ties. But it raises a big question—are we moving toward a more emotionally connected world, or one where real human connection is at risk?

what do yall think: would you date or marry an AI ala Joaquin Phoenix’ “Her”?

There’s a difference between connection and mutuality. AI can simulate empathy, but it doesn’t feel anything.

so while it might offer comfort or even companionship, it’s a one-way street. the risk is that we get used to frictionless relationships and start avoiding the messiness that comes with real humans—who challenge us, misunderstand us, and grow with us.

so would i date or marry an AI? maybe for a season of loneliness or healing. but in the long run, i’d still choose someone who can love me back—with all the unpredictability and imperfection that comes with being human.
