H&M Knows Its AI Models Will Be Controversial

sooo H&M will begin using AI digital twins for their models, naturally to the dismay of a lot of people

here are some key insights from Business of Fashion

Key insights

  • H&M is working directly with models and their agencies to create digital replicas of 30 different models this year that it will be able to use in AI-generated images for purposes such as social-media posts and marketing campaigns.
  • The models themselves will own the rights to their twins, according to the company, and will even be able to let other brands use them, including H&M’s competitors.
  • The company acknowledges that it doesn’t yet know all the impacts this approach will have on models, or all the other workers who make fashion imagery possible, such as photographers, stylists, hair and makeup artists and more.

thoughts? short-term, i think that as long as models are continually compensated for their work BECAUSE they’re the one being modeled upon with the AI digital twins, I think it’s fine. The potential issue lies in the long-term. what are the implications of this in the modeling industry?

yeah - saw this article.

authenticity is going to be the main argument against this move by H&M, and I really can’t blame em
