Summary: Psychology has been instrumental in the evolution of artificial intelligence, offering foundational insights into learning, cognition, and behavior that have shaped key AI technologies. From early neural networks based on Hebbian learning to modern deep learning and metacognition, psychological theories continue to inform AI’s development.
Recent breakthroughs, such as OpenAI’s progress on reasoning tests, reflect the growing importance of cognitive principles in AI research. As AI and human interaction deepens, psychology is poised to guide how machines learn, reason, and potentially reshape our own cognitive capabilities.
worthwhile read here. personally hope psych techniques/concepts continue to be integrated in AI
Absolutely agree — psychology has quietly been one of AI’s greatest muses. The roots of so many AI breakthroughs trace back to foundational psychological theories, from how we model memory and attention to how we define “intelligence” itself
It’s definitely intriguing, but I think there’s still a gap between how psychology works in humans versus how it’s translated into machines. Mimicking behaviors like attention or memory doesn’t necessarily mean understanding them — and there’s a risk of over-simplifying complex psychological phenomena just to fit them into AI models
